I’ve had the pleasure of working with a portrait photographer based in Los Angeles. As expected on a photographers’ website, it was portfolio-driven, which is great to showcase the work however…photoshoots don’t sell themselves.

What does that mean?

On your website, photos and portfolio alone aren’t enough to consistently get clients who want your shoots. In the case of YL Photography, we transformed a portfolio-driven photography website with unclear positioning into a search-ready, client-focused experience.

By clarifying the brand message, optimizing the copy for local SEO, and introducing conversion-driven CTAs, the site now clearly communicates who she serves, the value of the experience, and how to book (without losing her lovely brand personality).

The result is a website built to attract the right clients, guide them with clarity, and convert interest into action.

Project Details: Website Copy and SEO Audit

Client: Professional Portrait Photographer based in Los Angeles

Main Focus: Clarity | Search Readiness | Conversion-Focused | Strategic Improvements

YL photography came to me because:

I never 100% understand SEO but hoping it helps me getting more exposure without doing lots of ads. I’m confident with my work and hoping I don’t have to get the clients always asking for a budget.

We started the project with a website copy and SEO audit. We needed to first uncover the hidden opportunities across her messaging, positioning, and search visibility.

Through client research and SEO analysis, I identified where the website was under-communicating her value (which is what makes clients questions your fees), missing local search intent, and relying too heavily on visuals without guiding visitors to book a photo session.

From there, I created a clear optimization plan to refine the copy, aligning it with how potential clients search, what past her clients valued the most, and what drives qualified inquiries.

The result is a strategically optimized website foundation designed to improve clarity, search readiness, and conversion (while still preserving her voice and visual identity).

  • SEO-optimized headline and subheading with local intent (Los Angeles and Orange County)

Brand Positioning and Messaging Updates

Before and After website copy for the About page
About Page: Before and After

The Before

  • Messaging emphasized personal history and a few testimonials
  • Limited explanation of the client experience
  • Benefits were implied, not clearly stated

The After

  • We created a clear articulation of:
    • Who she is
    • Who the services are for
    • What clients gain from the experience
  • We reframed the copy around client needs, confidence, behind the scenes expectations, and outcomes
  • We highlighted the past happy clients’ testimonials and added CTAs in strategic locations

Across the rest of the individual services pages, pricing packages, portfolio, and contact, we optimized it SEO while preserving her brand voice. We ended up with a refined website copy for both search engines and humans. Some of the SEO updates included:

  • Mild grammar, syntax, and clarity improvements
  • Natural keyword integration (no keyword stuffing)
  • Improved content with clearer headings and structure
  • On-page SEO optimization:
    • Headings (H1–H3)
    • Meta guidance
    • Internal page structure

Full Scope of Work: Audit

  • Full website copy and SEO audit
  • Keyword research for local + niche photography searches
  • On-page SEO optimization (headings, meta guidance, internal structure)
  • Mild copy rewrite for homepage, about, and services pages
  • CTA and user flow improvements
  • Testimonial expansion using language from past happy clients

Strategy Highlights

We aligned the website copy with the actual search terms clients use when looking for a photographer in the LA and OC county area, making it easier for the right people to find her. At the same time, we shifted the messaging from being all about her to focusing on the outcomes and experience clients can expect.

The pages were also made more scannable and structured for both humans and search engines, so visitors can quickly find what they’re looking for. Finally, we strengthened trust by expanding testimonials and weaving in real client experiences to show why working with YL Photography is a choice clients feel confident about.
